Frequently Asked Questions

MODS

My installed mods are unsupported in red colors. What is wrong?

Nothing. "Unsupported" means, that this mod is not installed via TLeech and you will not get any automatic updates in the future - that's all. You can manage these mods with de-/activate as any other. A simple solution is to reinstall the mods through TLeech (only when your mods are available of course). But be carefully: Some mods like "Tier-3 Ancient Items" or "Skill/Level Mod" forgot to provide unique identifier for items. If you uninstall such mods, you will lose all items on all old characters (savegames) even if you reinstall those mods.

My mods are not available. What can i do?

You can submit a request (button at top menu). We don't add every mod around the world to the database. There exists some minimum requirements for mods and it is not enough to change a value in TorchED and cry "yeah my new mod". Just wait a few days and check for changes. If you feel that your requests are ignored without a reason, you can discuss your point of view in the thread in Runic Games forums. See weblink on the frontpage of this website.

A mod has bugs or is incompatible with other mods. What to do?

The best way is to post your issues in the thread of the mod author. In TLeech, everytime you select a mod there will be tabs for websites at the bottom of the application. The best choice is always "Runic Games" for the official mod discussion forum. Create your account like in other forums and participate. The TLeech team only provide information to mod authors, if more users request the same issue. A single request will be recognized but not redirected to the mod author.

A mod has conflicts with other mods. How to solve?

In most cases you have no chance to fix the conflicts for yourself until you have no average modding experiences. Some problems could be

SAME FILENAME:
In this case two mods change the same file. The game will load only the file versions/copies of the mod with the highest load priority (= lowest prio number).

SAME GUID:
Two mods change the same object/item of the game or have the same unique identifier. The game can not handle two versions of the same item ingame. Some kind of luck which item will be available ingame.

NO GUID FOUND:
This is a real problem for item mods when those mods will be updated in the future. You will lose all items from these mods on all characters (savegames) if you delete this mods even when reinstall them. The worst mods are "Tier-3 Ancient Items" and "Level/Skill Mod" - both with tons of new gear but without GUIDs. If you install a update for them, you may lose all gear on high level characters.

FILE ENCODING:
The character encoding for this file is wrong. The game will never load this file.

In rare situations you can work with the load priority if you know what you do or what the conflicts means exactly. Otherwise one or more mods will not work as intended. In the worst case the game could crashes during the gameplay.

A mod is in the group "NOT SUPPORTED" with gray colored text. What does this means?

We are watching at this mod and its development, but in the current status we will not add it to the database. Maybe because of alpha status, bugs, not enough time from our side or other reasons. It is just a "hint" for our users if they search for it. You can browse to the website and crab your own copy of the mod. If you know how to install mods there is no need to wait for TLeech.

TORCHLEECH

Exists a setup or install requirements?

No. Download, extract and start it. That's all.

What happens when install a mod?

TorchLeech downloads the mod package from our servers and extracts the files to the mods folder of Torchlight (%appdata%\runic games\torchlight\mods\). The packages are RAR-Archives which will be extracted by the UnRAR command line tool (included in the tool binaries). The mod cache will be cleared after this to force Torchlight to recompile the new stuff with the next game start.

What happens when uninstall a mod?

TorchLeech deletes the mod folder and clear the mod cache.

What happens when update a mod?

Torchleech reinstall the mod. First off all the new version will be downloaded, then uninstall the old version and reinstall the new version. There is no file patching process behind this function.

Does TorchLeech use the original packages from the author?

No. We need more information about a mod. For this reason we download the original mod, extract it, modify or add the "mod.dat" file to complete information and repack the mod with WinRAR. In some rare cases we delete all ADM-Files too to shrink the mod size about 50% (no problem because ADM-Files should never be released with a mod, senseless). All other files will be original and not changed. This provide the original behaviour of the mod. If you have a problem with the TLeech package you will have the same with the original version.

Problems and errors

How can i report errors/bugs?

If you get an error and can reproduce it multiple times, please submit a "Other..." request where you descripe your problem in the comment. If you have an account for Runic Games forums, you can visit this thread.

Cannot access online database...

TorchLeech connects to an online database through the HTTP port 80 at start up. If you get the error, it was not able to get a HTTP connection at all, please check your firewall settings. If you must use a proxy, set up the server in the options.

Analyse error in file 'mods.dat'...

Your file 'mods.dat' in mod folder seems to be corrupted. Delete it and restart TorchLeech. For this, you must activate all mods again.

Save error for file 'mods.dat'...

The was an error while saving the file 'mods.dat'. This file is responsible for the de-/activating mods. Restart TorchLeech and try it again.

Directory 'xyz' can not deleted (write protection). You must delete it manually.

If you uninstall a mod, TorchLeech tries to delete the mod directory. This can fail if there is a write protection for example. Go to the reported folder via Windows Explorer and delete the directory manually. After that, restart TorchLeech to refresh your installed mod list.

Download error occured. Try again or submit a 'Mod is broken' request.

This error raises up when you try to install a mod. TLeech has problems to download the necessary mod package from our webserver. Try again later, maybe our download server is on heavy traffic and can't response fast enough. You could try to change the timeout value in Extras --> Options. Default are 10.000 ms, maybe set it up to 30.000 ms (30 sec). If you can install other mods without problems, please submit a request to inform us about download issues with this single mod.
